Ho Ho Hot Mulligan Night One In Detroit
Hot Mulligan kicked off their annual “HO HO Hot Mulligan” weekend at The Fillmore on Friday night, and the place felt electric from the second the lights went down. This show has basically become a Detroit holiday tradition at this point, and you could tell everyone in the room had been counting the days. Night 1 sold out fast, and the energy honestly felt like it never dipped once.
The band came out swinging, jumping right into their set with that chaotic, funny, totally genuine vibe they always bring. Detroit crowds are loud, but this was another level every lyric was screamed back at them, and the floor was moving nonstop. Between songs, the band joked around like they were hanging out with a room full of friends instead of thousands of people. It’s that mix of emotional songs and playful chaos that makes their live shows feel so different from everyone else’s.
My favorite moment of the night was when they played “A Big Load” and “BCKYRD.” The room exploded for both people shouting every word, phones in the air, and that perfect mix of chaos and nostalgia that Hot Mulligan seems to nail every time. The whole night had this warm, end of year feeling almost like a big holiday gathering where everyone already knows the words. When the last song hit, nobody looked ready to leave. If Night 1 set the tone, Night 2 is about to be even wilder. Detroit never disappoints, and neither does Hot Mulligan.
