Peach Pit & Briston Maroney Light Up Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre
There’s something magical about outdoor shows in Michigan when the sun starts to set and the music takes over — and that’s exactly what happened when Peach Pit and Briston Maroney rolled into the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre for a night of jangly guitars, emotional lyrics, and laid-back indie rock energy.
Briston Maroney took the stage first and immediately set the tone with a passionate and heartfelt set. He opened with “Real Good Swimmer” and let his gritty voice and raw storytelling pull the crowd in. Songs like “Small Talk” and “Body” had people swaying, but it was “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate” that got the loudest reaction. Briston’s ability to make a large venue feel intimate is part of what makes him so compelling live. He chatted between songs, shouted out his band, and genuinely looked like he was having a blast — and the crowd responded in kind.
Then it was Peach Pit’s turn. As the sky darkened, their signature dreamy sound filled the amphitheater. They kicked things off with a surprise Black Sabbath/“Magpie” mash-up that somehow worked perfectly and launched into fan favorites like “Psychics in LA,” “Up Granville,” and “Private Presley.” Neil Smith’s vocals were as smooth as ever, and the band’s tight musicianship made even the more mellow tracks feel dynamic live. They closed with “Tommy’s Party,” a perfect sendoff that had the whole crowd singing under the stars. The set was funny, emotional, and effortlessly cool — everything you’d expect from Peach Pit, and then some.
This tour pairing just makes sense. Briston Maroney brought the fire, Peach Pit brought the breeze, and together they gave Metro Detroit a night of music that felt personal, unforgettable, and just the right amount of weird. Summer show season is officially on.
